Rabbi Daniel Bortz

I grew up in San Diego, California, via Cape Town, South Africa. Towards the end of my turbulent high school teen years, I began exploring my inner spiritual development and learning about Judaism. After 1 year at UC Santa Barbara, I left to Jerusalem to delve into better understanding the meaning of life, embarking on a 6 year journey into Jewish thought, studying Biblical, Talmudic and Jewish mystical teachings in schools around the world.

Returning to California in 2011 with my Rabbinic degree, I founded JTEEN of San Diego, an organization dedicated to educating and empowering teenagers. I later created SOUL X for young adults that offers profound inner and outer experiences of soul connection.
I'm a sports enthusiast who competes in Brazilian Jiu [Jew] Jitsu tournaments; I love music and have annually served the needs of thousands of visitors at the Coachella Music Festival. I look to fuse ancient Jewish wisdom with 21st century life and pop culture, approaching every moment as an opportunity for personal growth and for elevating my surroundings to a greater purpose.
